We are Kilobaser
A Team committed to the democratization of DNA & RNA synthesis
Quite a few years ago, Alex, Martin, and Bernhard set up one of Europe's first biohackerspaces and one question keeps echoing through the lab: "DNA is the foundation of life science. Why can't we synthesize it ourselves?" They refuse to leave it unanswered. They sketch, prototype, iterate — chasing a single idea: a personal DNA&RNA synthesizer with the elegant simplicity of a Nespresso machine. Slide in a cartridge, press a button, walk out with a custom sequence ready to use. That idea is now reality — Kilobaser.

Our vision
We envision a world where the full potential of life science unfolds to everyone’s benefit. Driven by curiosity and passion for innovation, we work to transform science by unleashing the power of DNA & RNA.
Our mission
We put push-of-a-button DNA & RNA synthesizers in the hands of lab professionals, giving them independence and instant access to custom oligonucleotides.
The meaning behind our logo
Kilobaser's logo is a homage to Photograph 51, an X-ray diffraction image of DNA taken in May 1952 by Raymond Gosling, then a PhD student in Rosalind Franklin's lab. It became critical evidence for the discovery of DNA's double-helix structure.
