“DNA is the foundation of life science – why can’t we synthesize DNA ourselves?” That was the question that circled around in Alex’s head shortly after he, Martin and Bernhard founded one of Europe’s first biohackerspaces, the ‘Open Biolab Graz Austria’, in 2013. Inspired by the simplicity of a Nespresso Machine, their quest to build the first personal DNA synthesizer began – Kilobaser.
Our vision is to cut down on waiting time and permanent costly delays by making a device that will make custom DNA primers in a lab.
We create a device that enables scientists to produce ready to use DNA oligos in their lab with friendly software and easy-to-use machine.
Quality (committed to deliver products of exceptional quality), professionalism, integrity, performance and environmental responsibility.
Kilobaser´s logo is a homage to Photograph 51, which is an X-ray diffraction image of DNA taken by Raymond Gosling in May 1952, working as a PhD student under the supervision of Rosalind Franklin. It was critical evidence in identifying the structure of DNA.
